15. Summary
WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT AT 5,000 MSL AND IMC, THE NUMBER ONE ENGINE CHIP DETECTOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AN EMERGENCY WAS DECLARED AND A LANDING WAS MADE AT AAF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. AN INSPECTION REVEALED NUMEROUS CHIPS ON THE ENGINE CHIP DETECTOR PLUG. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED. IMPENDING INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE NUMBER ONE ENGINE. PREVIOUS HISTORY: 4 CHIP DETECOR LIGHTS WITH METAL PRESENT, 1 SPECIAL OIL SAMPLES, 3 COMPLETE SERVICEABILITY CHECKS-ALL OCCURRED WITHIN THE LAST 48 HOURS.
