             B Company - "Sugar Bears North", 4th Battalion, 123rd Aviation Regiment operates the Boeing CH-47D Chinook helicopter in the frozen frontier of Alaska.

             Two U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters transported "Humvees" - High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) - via sling load at Allen Army Airfield, Fort Greeley, Alaska, on 23 February 1998, during Exercise Northern Edge 98. More than 90,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Coast Guard, and National Guard personnel participated in the exercise. Northern Edge 98 was designed to practice joint operational techniques and procedures, increasing interoperability between the services.

 

             Below, Sugar Bear Chinook 90-00189 practiced sling load techniques with a local unit at Fort Wainwright, Alaska in April 2001.
